From the mouth of Austin Barnes:
"1. I had the idea for a biopic style album about Jackson Stack almost immediately after finishing The Draculus Gate, part of the reason for that is that I wanted to tell an actual story this time. The last album was basically just an introduction to the insane setting, which is fine on its own but it left so many stories to tell. The Stack story was always the obvious one for a more narrative style album - he’s a hero, a tragic one but still. Of course, his story is also funny and bleak and insane and, all in all, the most visceral depiction of life in the Draculus Gate world. I wanted to tell a story like that because I wanted to move away from politics as the subject matter and move towards culture and the individual. Culture is way more tangible and interesting, we can relate to it and feel it much more intuitively than what we typically think of as politics. But in the end culture is politics too (and the ways politics drives culture is probably the most obvious theme in the album). So following the Jackson Stack story was a way to make the world in the Draculus Gate more personal.
2. Since I already had the idea before making any of the songs I was basically working in the opposite direction as the last one, trying to make music to fit into an idea. My main worry was that my songs would end up being too connected to the concept, which isn’t how I want the songs to function in the project. It turns out I made music the same as ever, entirely spontaneously, and there’s not really any clear relation between the songs and the storyline.
Throughout the album a few parallels are drawn between Stack and Christ. But while Christ died for our sins, Stack died for our entertainment.
Many thanks once again to Ollie Turbitt for his help with this album and all Berlin Anatomy albums. I would also like to thank Nicolás Maduro and the Venezuelan people for reasons I will not specify."
