This piece was created for Architects of Air's luminarium, a dazzling maze of winding paths and soaring domes where Islamic architecture, Archimedean solids and Gothic cathedrals meld into an inspiring monument to the beauty of light and colour.
The luminaria are designed by company founder, Alan Parkinson, who started experimenting with pneumatic sculptures in the I980s. They are made of a plastic produced uniquely for Architects of Air. Only four colours of plastic are used to generate a great diversity of subtle hues.
The luminaria travel with their own sound system. The music played is this piece called 'In Gold', composed by David Bickley. It has been a music that has worked well with the structures – its contemplative & elemental qualities have been very much in harmony with the calm atmosphere we have wanted to maintain in the structures.
I make ambient and experimental music & film, inspired by landscape and folklore. I’ve won many awards (Hotpress best electronic act, Paris World Cinema), performed worldwide (Glastonbury, The Big Chill) , collaborated with artists such as Roedelius and Tom Green, and composed music for Ridley Scott. My latest series of releases are mood works based on landscape and natural environments.
