Dating Apps by Dan Wainwright

Dating Apps is the first release on Dan’s budding label, This Is The Music We Dance To, which will be dealing with acid house, balearic beat, psychedelic rock and dub music. The label is being run by Dan and best friend Danny Sutcliffe (also known under his tattoo artist name Joe Hawkins), and their mission statement is to not chase outcomes or an end goal, but to embrace the moment, live via impulse and to trust those empowering and enlightening connections where everybody involved feels seen, heard, and celebrated for who they are.

The Dating Apps EP is driven by spoken word reflections on the modern single life Dan and friends are facing in their late 20s and early 30s. At its heart are soaring, Grateful Dead-inspired lead lines—played not on a guitar, but on a ukulele—woven into the pulse of acid house and balearic beat music.

Dan had quit making electronic music for three and a half years prior to this EP and had taken up playing psychedelic ukulele folk music. After becoming immersed in the Chester and Liverpool music scenes, Dan experienced a life-changing moment, ending a seven-year-long relationship and sending him into the midst of a journey of self-discovery that to this day isn’t letting up. Dan found himself suddenly being asked to remix music again by many friends in the Liverpool music scene and beyond and had found himself producing dance naturally without chasing it.

Dan is creating dance music again with an inner fire, raw honesty and a deep faith in himself and life. After experiencing so much change, Dan is left with the most honest version of himself and a passion to embrace life as an adventure. The EP here, Dating Apps, covers the topic of being a newly single 33-year-old man with his closest friends around, holding each other up and enjoying life anew.
