Dansa is the boss of Edinburgh's envelope-pushing label and party Palidrone, and booker at world famous nightclub Sneaky Pete’s. His latest offering Flustra is an onslaught of hyper-real, confrontational club music, rooted in UK bass music but drawing from the madcap worlds of grime, hard drum, footwork and hyperpop – leaping out of the page in a flurry of warped, spiralling textures and outrageous drums.
There is no let-up across the five track duration of this EP: it flies by in a blur of familiar UK dance sounds turned up to eleven and pulled inside out, revealing its grotesque innards. Lead single ‘Bobble Buster’ opens with the sound of glass smashing before pulling us headfirst into its vortex of nauseating synths and obstinate, stuttering samples. Elsewhere, opening track ‘Flustra’ sounds like a style of dance music discovered in an underwater kingdom: shimmering synths cascade over a sexy, slo-mo dancehall rhythm, like a club anthem listened to through the wrong apparatus.
