Koeosaeme is the solo project of Ryu Yoshizawa, a Japanese producer with a string of exciting solo releases on Orange Milk Records and an expansive body of work outside his personal recordings. That ranges from live support for Ryuichi Sakamoto and Yukihiro Takahashi, to commercial sound work for studios like Square Enix and Lotte, though his solo output showcases a similar range and versatility. Like his most recent LP for Orange Milk, Mauve operates in a more reflective headspace than his early work, though in this case highlighting an especially cosmic and escapist tendency.
That mood is appropriate, given the roots for Mauve are buried in the isolation and introspectiveness imposed by COVID lockdowns. Yoshizawa describes the album as "the soundtrack to a fictional movie, created in segments as I matched new sounds to my imagined story. The sounds reflect the feeling of freedom I felt from the closed-off mood of COVID-19 isolation and my immersion in each fictional scene." Mauve is as adventurous as his older works, but infuses his typical experimentation with a deeper sense of whimsy and play.
