Portland based Classy Drugs makes chaotic dance music that sounds like simultaneous raves happening in the same room. The music just goes and goes without any kind of a let up or break. It feels like hour 8 at a warehouse and you're both trying to stay upright and light your cigarette at the same time. It wakes you up, demanding your attention. "Park Clinic" is solidly built and its' core tenants of "don't stop" and "won't stop" are valuable in today's generic dance scenes. The artist isn't hiding, there's a lust for being center stage that permeates from these sweat drenched jams.
Classy Drugs describes their music as "Molly music. Plain and simple. The ups and downs, it's all is part of the same experience." but you will be hard pressed to find or feel the downs. It's refreshing to hear someone pay tribute to a substance that created their subculture. Their attitude is very 90's. Parts sound like Moby meets Tool. Others like Berlin clubbing castoffs. Banished to the dungeons and kink clubs that form the scene's underbelly. The sounds and aesthetic are cohesive but not in a way that feels like pandering. There's real love in these long tracks.
Vinyl warmth splashed all over the head of slowed jungle coaches. When you think it won't shift, the music repeats and tumbles all over itself. It's wet like Portland, but dry like the attitude of it's citizens. It sketches cosmopolitan scenes in the grooves of looted record stores. Crate digging with 10 record players all going at once. Classy Drugs is maximal dance music for the shut in generation.
