Clipped poem fragments stewed with sludge and chipmunk parts. Ariel is an homage to Sylvia Plath, that plays off the concept of musical memory. Fried circuits bark and howl along these Pop adjacent tracks. Most were cut from 8 track, the majority of this record was recorded around 2010. Lipglo$$ calls it: "An accurate portrayal of my relationship to a specific dead poet. And the many ways she fucked my life up." It's a distorted Greatest Hits, a glance into how an artist relates to another.
The veiled digs at hero worship permeate out of all of Lipglo$$'s music, but never as directly as here. Short songs full Ambient, Pop and terror. The reward tracks are genuinely rewarding after sitting through a psychedelic stew. After sitting through some uncomfortable minutes, the record delivers on what you came for: warped ass dance hits.
The tension and release is blatant and you know what you're in for before you even get there. Dance floor destroyers that make you shutter and retract.
The final track is a Deus Ex Machina, a moment of strange reversal. A reminder of how far you've come from the beginning of the tape and a forewarning of the pain ahead. A sincere moment of tenderness, a first in the Lipglo$$ discography. Collective Ego Death is excited to share this newly remastered version of "Ariel" with you for the first time.
