Beginning a series of broadly diverse, super-limited lathe cut releases on Collapsing Drums is this 8" single by Tears | OV (Lori E Allen, Deborah Wale and Katie Spafford).
THE RELEASE
Deborah's vocals wrestle with the difficulties of projective identification* while Lori's rubbery bassline and tight electronics are succinctly punctuated by Katie's cello... An exquisite and surprisingly poppy ear-worm from this otherwise entirely experimental act.
On the B-side, Charlie Behrens' remix melds two elements from Tears' celebrated 2021 album Pluto's Return (Bloxham Tapes), with his own sonic abstractions. The track reflects the album by having notably separate episodes, with field recording and clattering concrète elements giving way to a delirious post-techno reel-to-reel beat-unravelling that goes completely off the rails.
*In psychoanalysis, projective identification is a defense mechanism in which the individual projects qualities that are unacceptable to the self onto another person, and that person introjects the projected qualities and believes him/herself to be characterized by them appropriately and justifiably.
