Pentre Ifan from Megaliths (CSR334CD) by Llyn Y Cwn
The skeletal remains of Neolithic dolmen Pentre Ifan take us back to the times when our ancestors laid their dead to rest in burial tombs such as this. The giant 16ft/5m capstone (est. 16 tonnes) appears to be precariously balanced on three uprights, some 2.5m/8ft, though it has remained in place for over 5,000 years. Pentre Ifan's sense of mystery is heightened by its surroundings and backdrop. Its outline neatly frames the Preseli Hills towering above, source of the famous Pembrokeshire 'bluestones' that went into the making of Stonehenge as well as Pentre Ifan itself.
