Lauded London label Classic Music Company founded by Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter has announced the plans for its 30th anniversary celebrations. A tribute to three decades of pioneering club culture, timeless records and an ever-evolving roster of forward-thinking artists, the label will release a special coffee table book and three-part vinyl boxset, as well as hosting a party to celebrate the landmark anniversary.
Designed just as much for your coffee table as your record shelves, the book is an oral history of three decades of the iconic label, alongside the distinctive sleeve designs and artwork that have secured the label’s place in the most discerning of vinyl collections for the last three decades. Lovingly put together by David Windmill, one of Classic’s original in-house designers, the book offers an expansive and intimate look at the label’s evolution, featuring an introduction by journalist Claire Hughes, a heartfelt foreword by Honey Dijon and a reflective afterword by Classic co- founder Luke Solomon.
Contributors include the artists that helped form the sound of the imprint, such as Rob Mełło, Justin Harris, Roy Davis Jr, Isoleè, Pepe Bradock, Doc Martin, Tiefschwarz, Brett Johnson, James Curd, Chez Damier, Home & Garden and Radio Slave, while newer members of the Classic family such as Girls Of The Internet, Folamour, Alinka, Floorplan, Sophie Lloyd, Dave + Sam, JT Donaldson and Seven Davis Jr also offer their voice to the anecdotal memoir.
Classic was set up in 1994 by Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon. Releasing a whole host of wonderful long-lasting dance music from a long list of artists including Derrick and Luke themselves, Honey Dijon, Eli Escobar, Red Rack’em, Juan Maclean and many, many more.
