Mentored as a teenager by legendary pianist Billy Taylor, Sands became a member of the Christian McBride Trio and McBride’s Inside Straight. Now emerging as a composer and solo artist in his own right, Sands garnered a Best Instrumental Composition GRAMMY® nomination for his track “Be Water II.”
