Homecoming by Chris Dowding

These pieces were recorded for an installation with the artwork of Laure Van Minden at Raveningham Sculpture Trail in August 2021.

The pieces are derived from phrases that Laure collected at the care home where she works, especially from those people with dementia. I made some of the phrases into seven short poems, and translated them into musical notes using the composer and pianist Hugh Nankivell's alphabet system.

My aim for this collection of pieces was to record them just using trumpet and Ableton Live (including a laptop synth). They were recorded over a period of about two weeks in February 2021.

Raveningham Sculpture Trail is open 31st July to 5th September 2021 - do visit if you are able to..!

I am a trumpeter and workshop leader based in Norwich.

I have performed around the UK with Natural Causes, Rude 2.0 and I lead the Moonrise Trio. I have been commissioned by Durham Brass Festival and Norfolk and Norwich Festival.

I have led workshops with Spitalfields Music, Dartington and Musical Keys.
