It was a little after midnight
And I was driving home from a night out with friends
Now, I had a couple of drinks but not enough to really impair my sight or anything.
I am not that much of a drinker in any case
But I want to be upfront with everything
And totally honest
Now, It is only a 10 kilometer drive
So I would be home in 15, maybe 20 minutes at most
And the stretch of road I was on is mainly straight
There are fields on either side
And it was mostly a dark road though
As you would expect out this way
Anyhow, while driving maybe at 60 to 70 kilometers an hour
And just like that
The car just suddenly lost all its power
I pumped the accelerator a couple of times
And it went straight to the floor
I was thinking, “what the hell”
I tried the ignition a couple of times
And nothing
Moments later, I recall just feeling a little light headed
The car started again, the headlights were on
And the Engine was idling, and I was on my way again
I got home and saw the clock in my hallway
It was 3:45am
I was like “what ?”
I grabbed my phone ... and saw the time was right .... 3:45am
I don't know how or why
But a 20 minute trip took me over 3 and a half hours
And i have been battling with it every since
It’s all i can think about
I can’t focus on anything
My work, my family, my interactions with friends
It’s all suffered
To the point i can’t sleep
I just black out from exhaustion
I am constantly tired and my mind is just messed up.
