“Shadow” explores the alchemy of despair, reflecting Eliza
Swift’s struggle with grief and abandonment and the writer’s long-held fascination with Robert A. Johnson’s writings on claiming one’s own shadow.
The rainstorm builds with wind and huge cracks of thunder. A lover’s offering of comfort and companionship in the darkness. An appeal to share their trouble until they both find the light and turn their base elements into gold.
The repeated call and response sections between vocals and guitar create an undertow as the storm builds and fades. The night owl echoes persistently with a need to connect. Dripping rain, frog song, playful whispering in the darkness and finally nestling into quiet companionship.
This track, once again, showcases Vassallo's innovation and creativity as a brilliant and highly original slide guitarist.

Born in Tasmania, Bronwyn Eather came to Sydney to study acting, following almost a decade of pioneering work as a field linguist in Arnhem Land, in the remote north of Australia.
Her fifth recording 'Swaggerland' is due for release mid 2025. This follows 'Unbroken' 2024 with Paul Vassallo, 'Brave Old World' 2020, 'Against the Tide' 2017 and her debut EP 'On the Bones of Love' 2015.
