Eternal Rest by BROKEN_CANYON

This EP explores the idea that all things both concrete and abstract are in a state of entropy if they are not actively being built up. This is a constant I've observed throughout my life that causes me a lot of anguish, and much of my music attempts to try to convey this feeling. Sometimes I try to find beauty in this, while other times I try to make pieces that can make the listener feel this. On this release I hope I have successfully conveyed both. "I Don't Want To Feel This Way Forever" is probably the most illustrative of this idea, while "6.5mm Lens (Sleep Strain)" is more like a fleeting moment of stillness and calm that is over too soon. "Rain Portrait" started as an attempted cover of Swans' "Helpless Child", but quickly evolved into its own thing. It reminds me a lot of my work when I was younger (namely Paradise 1116 and LWA15BR.)

Something I've loved about Dreampunk is that it is a framework for ambient and ambient-adjacent music that allows for much more explicit emotional expression than traditional ambient music. You can see this in the track titling of artists like Sangam, The Microgram, and Kagami Smile, all of whom I greatly admire. While ambient music oftentimes aims to compliment something, Dreampunk usually aims to use the sonic palette of ambient music to create a fully immersive experience. Since my first real album, Paradise 1116, I've been trying to capture and distill specific feelings and emotional moments into tracks. I like to see my tracks as these small emotional universes that you travel in and out of, which is why I almost always like to fade songs in and out.

I am aware that a lot of listeners of my music probably put it on in the background or to sleep to (as do I), but I would encourage listeners of this release to try to go through it at least once in a state of intent and deep listening.

The Bandcamp version of this album features a bonus track that was only previously performed live around 2023, this one taken from a performance in Tokyo where I decided to click the record button. I felt the mixing a little too raw to ever justify releasing on an album, but trying to correct this rawness would make it lose the live quiality. I intend on at some point releasing a "Live" album or EP, which will feature both "live exclusive" pieces, as well as pieces that have continued to evolve since being initially released.
