Gemini by Brad Gardner
Going back as far as 2020, I knew that I wanted this album to be called Gemini, in fact, I initially thought that GEM II INI would maybe be my new band name. Am I a Gemini? Yes I am, and as it turns out so are a lot of other amazing people in my life. One thing I can say is that as much as there are many stereotypes of gemini's I can tell you that not one gemini that I know are the same.
Because of our initial global lockdown I was recording my new songs on my own for my first time after many past experiences working with some amazingly talented musicians engineers and producers.
I felt ready for the task. To my surprise, about half way through working on this album, I found out that google had just named their brand new A.I technology Gemini.
I found that to be a pretty freaky coincidence, one that began to add to an overall arching theme for the album.
Throughout this recording process, I recorded dozens of songs, but it wasn't until I put these 8 particular songs together that I could hear what this album was supposed to be.
For this album, I wanted to try something I had never done, and really focus on the live performance aspect of recording. As a result this album as ZERO editing, and zero auto tune.
Why you ask? I always wanted to try things a bit more like how they did it in the 60's and 70's where recordings were a bit more performance based. Every take on the record is a full take start to finish, with no punch ins.
I can't say I knew how this would all sound together as I was making it, but I can tell you I knew when I had got what I was looking for with the overall sound and flow and energy of the album.
I truly hope you enjoy the music, making this album has been a life experience that I will never forget and I will cherish this work and the experiences within this recording process always.
Throughout working on the album I also got to meet and chat with some of my favorite music heroes which always gave me the charge I needed when I felt I was maybe running out of steam or losing direction. I truly believe all good things take time, which seems to be maybe a bit of counter cultural act in this day in age.
I hope the music speaks to you, and Please don't be shy on the volume while listening, it was mastered to be turned up and I find the sound really opens up when you do!
I hope the album will continue to reveal itself to you after multiple listens. Lastly, I want give a very deep thank you to everyone who has followed my musical journey from my first gigs as a teenager until now.
