The Scientist by Bocassah

With "The Scientist" I tried to fulfill a new task: The recording of four long tracks that would fit to the sides of an imaginary double-LP release. And it should be a programmatic album, so I had a little background story in mind while creating these tracks.

While I was always trying to achieve new sounds with very few technical tools, I invented a primitive way of sampling: Playing a CD and hitting the FF and REW buttons either rhythmically or quick randomly. You can hear both techniques in track 3.
The "old sounds" from Casio, Mattel drums and C64, which I heavily used in earlier days, are appearing just few times in this album.

The length of the compositions made it necessary to make a more detailed plan, instead of just playing along the first recorded tracks. Included in the download is an example of my recording notes. Five parallel tracks were recorded, which turned out to be the maximum for keeping an acceptable quality in tape-to-tape-dubbing.

Altough these compositions are pretty long, each track was created in a single day, from idea to programming, rehearsal, recording and conceiving the title.
All music is presented in its original form, as re-mixing is impossible. Only minor sound processing was applied to reduce the enormous tape-hiss.

Bocassah started recording music in 1982, utilizing minimal equipment and even less musical knowledge. Inspired by electronic music from the 70s and 80s, several cassettes were released from 1986 to 1997. Bocassah's music will now be digitally re-released in random order.
