This album is dedicated to two humans that are no longer with us. One I never met, and one I knew well…

To E.O. Wilson, revered and uncompromising scientist and environmentalist, from whose books and lectures I learned so much about the physical world, who we are as a species and the primacy of the natural sciences.

And to Wally Shoup, celebrated and uncompromising musician, artist, friend and collaborator of over 25 years, from whom I learned so much about the aesthetic world, who we are as artists and the primacy of the music.

About the cover photo:

This is the Red Trumpet Tubeworm (Serpula Columbiana). These marine polychaete worms live on just about any substrate in self-constructed calcium tubes. Pictured are the elaborate and colorful branching radioles that perform dual functions of feeding and breathing, as well as the circular disc (operculum), which corks the animal safely in its tube when threatened.

Bill Horist is an internationally acclaimed artisan of the prepared guitar.
