Village Song from Babamadu - Bitama by Biboul Darouiche, Roberto Di Gioia, Adrian Mears
Biboul:
Village Song is a simple children song which I remember from my childhood. I combined it with a Calimba groove and made a tune out of it. A friend taught me the Calimba in Paris, from him I picked up the idea of forming a groove by playing a pattern and turning it around.
Adrian:
At the end of village song, there is this duo between trombone and djembe, this was the hardest tune I have ever played on a recording session. The accents Biboul puts on the tripplets are different from what I´m used from playing in the american setting. He is also doing these amazing fills and its the best djembe solo I ever heard him play. For me to keep up and to play over it was a real challenge.

The percussionist and composer Biboul Darouiche is originally from Cameroon. In the early 90ties Biboul moved to Paris, where he played and worked on various CD productions just as Roy Ayers, Klaus Doldingers Passport, Al di Meola, Paquito de Riviera, Graham Haynes, Kurtis Blow, Jazz Baltica Essemble, Pee Wee Ellis and Harald Haerter just to mention a few. Today Biboul lives in Germany.
