Spent my last dollars, tried to fill the tank
Put on my best clothes, and drove down to the bank
But I’m too risky, no way to get a loan
Can’t get a mortgage to buy a family home

Interest is low, and my credit rating’s high
But there’s no banker who’ll look me in the eye- I
Can’t make the kind of bread I need to qualify
It’s getting harder—and harder to buy

Well I scraped and bought a ticket, drove to the aeroport
Another city might be my last resort
There in the concourse, I met the TSA
Said “ Just a few things, and you’ll be on your way”

They took my toothpaste, and razor, and shampoo
And searched for weapons concealed inside my shoe
And what was I to do—you
Can’t take no bottled water if you want to ride the sky
It’s getting harder—and harder to fly

I didn’t always feel this way
I still remember when I wanted to play
But not this way-- Things are different today

Read a letter from a Captain tired of these wars
Rather be home shooting baskets than Muslims anymore
‘Cause these hate those, and we them all despise
Can’t get the stripes from out of my eyes

My gut’s infected and there’s sand in all my gear
Just give the order—and get me out of here. . . Far from here
I keep the peace in a land that’s gone awry
Keeps getting harder—and harder to try

My heart is breaking and damned if I know why
But it’s getting harder—and harder to cry
