Glass Shifter by Audio Safety Resource Package

The Audio Safety Resource Package (ASRP) series has been assembled to supply all people who have found themselves suddenly with the resources to make music (free software, time, etc.), but are lacking access to sounds that inspire them; sounds that they have not yet imagined. In four installments, the ASRP series delivers sounds from a variety of secret and rare sources. These are sounds that are made in performance, in meditation, in movement, in a room, in a machine, in nature. Each package is built around a theme, the sounds themselves might not be obviously connected, but their sources are.

No sound is labeled, no sound is made for any one key, tempo, genre, or context. The sounds are not perfect, they contain artifacts and noise. I hope that beautiful and terrible music can be made with these sounds; accidents and mistakes.

The sounds of Glass Shifter are all created using the FM synthesis method applied through two different machines. These machines are built for separate purposes and deliver different characteristics. Digital synthesis is often thought of as cold, perfect, and disconnected from the physical world. The sounds of Glass Shifter are meant to dispel these myths by providing examples of digital warmth, artifacts, and spacial modeling. They are drums, drones, noise, and sirens but they can and should be applied in any way that the user can achieve.
