The highways telling me to go
The yellow lines are rolling by when I'm asleep
And all the people that I know
Move on their own accord
but I just cant move that slow
anymore

There were some girls I got to know
Parading by me in a never ending line
I was a frightened little boy and tried to show
Them something they'd remember
long after I die
But they dont

The cattail willow and the trees
The rocky mountains and the moss upon the stone
White river water above my knees
An empty baggie and a car insurance loan

Thought I should say to everyone
I'm very sorry, I'm very sorry
I'm in the storm before the calm
I'm very sorry, please believe me
And shake your heads and wave
goodbye
as I move on

I'm like a dog after a bone
Thrown into the sea, I hope
My legs are strong
I feel like drowning on my own
If I can bite it, then I suppose I'll write more songs

And if you're watching from the shore
And I go under, promise me
you'll keep on trying
I couldn't do it anymore
The tv sets and magazines and God denied
For so long
for so long

If theres one thing I've come to learn
It's that no one can change a thing
inside their homes
I'll set these tangled roots to burn
And finally get to try my hand
at being alone
