Mh, the album was complicated. It was quite a long process. And there were a lot of doubts.
So:
One of my earliest musical listening experiences was "Arnold Layne" by Pink Floyd. I never realized that Syd Barrett was the singer and not David Gilmour. But that explained to me now, after such a long time, why the singer's voice of the later Pink Floyd sounded different. I I was never particularly interested in that because the nature of their music was less accessible to me. And let's be honest, alongside the well-known good they also produced a lot of noise. But everyone may see that individually.
Recently I've been looking into it more intensively and can put it all into perspective better. Interesting is that all the other band members, including Gilmour, had a guilty conscience about had a guilty conscience about Barrett being kicked out, financed him and he apparently died a millionaire (?).
But would Pink Floyd have become the band we know today with Syd Barrett? Would they have produced the groundbreaking albums of the time (the Darkside album is still said to sell up to 1000 copies a week)?
However, many elements were made with the simplest of means, which are still anchored in the memory of many today. I also found David Gilmour's statement that he didn't have nimble fingers and that he tried to compensate for this with small melodies very interesting. And indeed: more people probably know the 4 "magic" diamond notes or the "Wall" solo than the high-speed solos of various other well-known bands (apart from Mark Knopfler). And Pink Floyd also sounded kind of cheesy sometimes.
However, many details were a great source of inspiration for me. I recorded many sequences and "synths" with different guitars and "synthesized" them afterwards.
It may not appeal to everyone who expects more TD-like stuff. For me, however, the tonal journey was highly exciting and expanding.
Nevertheless, have fun with my little journey through "unknown territory".
Rock on!
