Practical Matters by Assonance

PRACTICAL MATTERS is the first album of Bern based chamber jazz trio Assonance.
The almost “live” sounding album sound derives from the natural reverb of the concert hall the seven pieces were recorded in, from the various backgrounds of the three musicians and the reflective and natural energy of their being together.
Very carefully woven melodies build a chordal environment. Just as well as the trumpet, the guitar and bass function as melodic instruments.
The approach to this music is highlighting the usual, the everyday life, the beauty of the unexciting. Practical Matters, stories of a person’s evening at home or very repetitive work executed every day anew.
The music is telling its stories almost by itself. Anna Regina Kalk, Loïc Baillod and Paul Butscher follow.
