The Andy Band is what I’ve called my solo recordings since the first cassette in 1981. It started off just me and a guitar or piano with two mics into a cassette deck, but soon grew to multi-tracked, one-man-band productions with bounces between two cassette decks, then 4-track decks, then digital workstation software and audio interfaces as technology exploded. These are refreshed versions of my favorite The Andy Band recordings from last century. They are re-recordings of songs I originally recorded from 1986 (my first time bouncing around on a 4-track cassette deck) to 1999 (Deck II on an iMac). They were recorded from 2005 to 2008 after I got Apple Logic Pro 7 and a PowerBook G4. I sang and played all instruments except my lifelong buddy and bandmate Jon Morse replaced my computerized drums on “go far”, “the only things alive”, “hold the moment”, “everything”, and “liquid”. Recorded and mixed by me in mangobananas studios in Ithaca, NY, USA.

“live it up, while we can” Andy is an optimistic pollyanna but also a cold-war kid, growing up in the 70s and early 80s in fear of nuclear war and therefore adopting this carefree YOLO attitude. Common themes contrast the fear that everything is crumbling with the comfort, support, and love of a happy marriage and close family and friends. Rich chords and fingerpickin! Phat vocal stacks and horns!
