Replicant by Andy Pickford

The debut album released in 1993 originally on the Centaur Discs label. The music was inspired by the movie Blade Runner and became known to the composer of that movie’s soundtrack, Vangelis, whilst getting quotes from the movie copyright cleared through Warner Bros. Vangelis had still not released his original music from the movie at the time. A few months after Replicant was released, he did. That of course, didn’t do Replicant any harm at all!
The album was also seen as important for helping to start this electronic Progressive sub-genre thing I keep reading about. Heck, I don't know, It was an 8-track workstation in a spare bedroom, running through a mid-range hi-fi system. I used a portastudio to add vocals. It was mastered to DAT. Centaur took it to be professionally mastered by Dave Bernez at the Townhouse in London. I have had to use a DAT of this master, as source material to remaster. If you're into recording, you don't need to tell me, retro-fitting is often really hard. I'd worked on a previous remaster, using a CD. This only worked to an extent.
The DAT was at least clean of further alterations made to it in the pressing process. I have been able to dynamically de-compress the audio to a good extent. Well, before retreating it to enhance the EQ, field-width and my own clipping/compression, then remastering at 24t/96. I think in total it took me a good couple of years to reach this stage.
