at Lake Wenatchee, a glacier- and snowmelt-fed lake situated on the eastern slopes of the Cascades in the state of Washington.
On May 2nd, I drove 110 miles from Seattle to the base of a small but mighty lake to the east called Wenatchee. The road led straight into the water, yellow lines and all, as we found the shoreline bloated from heavy rain and flooding. There was nothing to see not squinted, and nowhere to go not soaked.
"Sympathetic Magic" is a lowercase noise wall piece constructed from field recordings taken at this impermanent intersection of earth, sky, and water. Rain on the roof of the car blends with flat face of pavement and paint; the sound of water on leaves in the brush indiscernible from gentle patter of nearby synthetic fiber. A quasi-geographical study in ecoacoustic engineering; a foray into a solitary world of nano-nature; or, something to do when you're caught in the rain.

TRACE MEMORIES/SYMPATHETIC MAGIC is a split between the United Kingdom's A Ghost's Ghost and Chicago's The David Scott Cadieux Center. A Ghost's Ghost is a crackle project by James Shearman, who also designed, dubbed, and directed this batch of tapes, released on his Small Worm imprint. He has inspired me greatly as an artist this year and I was wholly honored to be asked to pair one of my walls with his wonderfully gentle and obsessive music.
