Forming started with a performance of with paper, a piece by English composer James Saunders, whose work often extends beyond music into engagement with interpersonal dynamics, social systems. Here the score is the instrument; a set of 100 pages each with unique instructions on manipulating the paper through writing, scoring, tearing, pressing.

Something sitting on the edge of music, James said himself that the piece can often sound like "someone doing admin or tidying up." We performed the piece in the round at a small underground theater in downtown Colorado Springs. Listening back, there's a surreality to this recording, a wavering between intention and accident, the mundane coalescing into musicality. James gave us tools to create a situation for ourselves, we made a temporary space to live in.
