AWEN by Alluma
Alluma are an indie-electronic duo based in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Clare Turnbull (singer + songwriter) and Andrew Barraclough (musician + songwriter) first met while in London, playing in a 5 piece band. After the band split, the two went separate ways but eventually found themselves both living in Edinburgh.
Influenced by ‘80s & ‘90s electronica, classic film scores & French chanson, Alluma fuse warm synth layers and vocal harmonies to melancholic melodies and laid back beats.
Simon Barraclough engineers, mixes and masters it all.
Awen is the Welsh, Cornish & Breton word for inspiration and like the band's name Alluma, is aspirational.
"We're both quite drawn to minor keys - sad sounding songs are somehow just more beautiful."
Alluma are influenced by music, art and theatre: the Cure's Disintegration album, David Sylvian, Brian Eno, Pet Shop Boys, Guy Garvey, PJ Harvey, Stereolab, 80s & ‘90s electronica, Massive Attack, the operas of Puccini, and artists Gilbert & George.
