The women pictured on the cover are engaged in the mid-20th century process of “filling out” a “dating profile”. They have gone through the exhaustive process of entering their relevant statistics (physical measurements, religious affiliations, number of recipes known, etc) into the crude mainframes used in the middle-class households of the era. After 45 to 90 minutes of calculations, the data was sent to DARPA and results could be expected in 7-10 business days. At this point, the woman would receive a manilla envelope with anywhere up to 2 dozen “profiles” of adequate husbands with a 40% or better “compatibility rating”. Now with the improved microprocessing power of modern dating servers, the awkward frissions and messy disagreements so common to relationships of the past have been eliminated entirely. Today’s singles can arrange breeding rituals with a greater speed and efficiency than Ada Lovelace could have ever imagined. It is with a wistful heart that we dedicate this song to those analog women from that stupid era and regret that they could not live with us in this future paradise we made out of money and technology.
