An album that leaves the listener breathless with its dynamic compression: the brute beauty of purely instrumental post-metal culminates in the 2nd album by the band, founded in 2018, into a sound odyssey that combines everything that makes this genre so fascinating. Named after a southern Italian crater landscape, the 5 long tracks are the equivalent of an archaic, dreamlike volcano ascent wrested from the forces of nature at the end of time. Once again recorded exclusively with 2 guitars, bass and drums, the always overwhelming compositions follow their own, above all always surprising logic, which charges the arrangements with hypnotic ambient cascades, unpredictable tempo changes between sludge and post-rock and cathartically powerful outbursts that turn the new album into a self-confident, delicately crafted statement; the 15-minute opener "Solfatara" alone is a tour de force of monolithic, heavy, smouldering beauty. In its profound emotionality and subtle expansion of the sound spectrum, it is a highlight of the genre this year.
