first born afronaught broken beat project recorded in 96' upstairs in the new attic studios once 'duke' luke mccarty, handed us the keys since moving out to the now infamous unit 12, mission control.
armed with a couple breaks on record from my mousetrap partner, nick prince, a box of trusty floppy disks with phil's roger s hi hat and kenny dope kick samples, an akai s950 sampler and a bag of grudgemonkey's finest, this was going to be naut's maiden voyage... basically emulating some of that "nu - yo - rican" ( i know some of you mofos still cannot pronounce it properly after all these years lol) house kenny and louie had been doing a few years prior after being inspired by dancers at southport weekender jazz bar room.
initially i wanted upright bass but couldn't get the samples to fit so when kester made a surprise visit one afternoon, naturally he ended up playing the bass from our rather weathered roland w30 keyboard sampler.
took around to a few labels but only ashley beedle came back with an interest so licensed to his new afroArt label. was scheduled to be the second release but ending up being pushed back to spring the following year & when it finally was released, it was printed with a typo as "special construction" I was livid! haha
they must've thought i couldn't spell so amended it, incorrectly.
spacial construction is a term used to determine a film genre, something i picked up from media studies at the time at a college which modaji had got me in to after passing on a book to me called distant voices by john pilger. thought i'd just share that with you.
