Black Shuck by Adam Soper

The Owl made it to its perch in Yggdrasil before the coming of Barghest. As Old Rugman bounds down the Dog Leap Stairs and into the abyss it howls to its governor Grim and governess Andraste: as a punishment for sins of past lives the shaggy hell hound is sworn to be the messenger between the two divine powers of Magic and Foresight, Knowledge and Wisdom.

The wolfhound pet of pagan Ragnor, and friend of christian Edmund is itself driven forwards always by contradiction. Black Shuck is both One and Zero, it is both being and nothingness. Oscillating between the two states is what pushes it onward. Forward the hell hound lunges, forwards, forwards ever forwards, towards what none can say or see.
